It's another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley...

Congratulations to new parents Stephanie & Brian Potter of Austin (formerly McAllen) and grandparents Amy & Dan Seitz of McAllen! Farris Lily Potter was born August 15, 2011. Welcome, baby Farris!!

Spent a lovely evening at the Club at Cimarron for the Annual Mission Historical Museum Banquet. This year, seven Mission natives were honored as they were inducted into the 2011 Wall of Fame. Among them were Bill Dondlinger, Lucille & Kika De La Garza, Estela Salinas, Mary Guerra, and Virginia & Pat Townsend, Sr. Also seen at the banquet were museum director Casandra Karl, Linda Casteneda, Patti Burrow, JoAnn Gibson, Loretta Walsh, Charlotte Waite, Terri Burleson, Melinda & Ruben Bosquez, Leo Garza, Tarsy & Paul Dondlinger, Nancy Shary Cheever, Ben Olivarez, Leo Canales, Mayor Beto Salinas, Aida Lerma, Celso Gonzalez, Eunice Sanchez, Elma Snell, Kathy Brown, Barbara & Tim Brown, as well as too many assorted Townsend Family members to count, and many other great Mission-ites!

The Mission Sports Complex in Sharyland Plantation was the site of the recent Dog Days of Summer event, showcasing several area animal shelters and providing much entertainment for dogs (and their owners)! Proceeds raised benefited the Mission Animal Shelter, Palm Valley Animal Shelter and the Oasis Animal Sanctuary. Attendees included multiple pooches, as well as fine folks like event coordinator Lindslee Brunson, Aida Lerma, Betty Luna, Evelyn Saenz, Dago Rivera, April Chapa, Hiram Burguette, Janet Vackar, Cherie Reeves, Sarah Alvarado, Christine Spencer and many more!

Thanks to Kathy Adams in Edinburg for sharing the following:

"Ava Grace Etherington made her debut on Thurs. Sept. 15 at 12:08 a.m. Proud parents are Graham & Kim Etherington of Edinburg. Loving grandparents are Wayne & Kathy Adams of Edinburg and Maggie Etherington and Andrew Mathews of London, England. Daddy Graham just got his visa and applied for his green card at Customs in Dallas on Thursday. He made it just in time for Baby Ava's birth! He arrived in McAllen at 10:20 p.m. less than 2 hours before Ava's arrival. It's as if Ava was just waiting on her daddy!"

Just one final reminder that September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. To learn more about this and other cancers, contact your local American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
