The Region One Education Service Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 19 to officially open the doors of the McAllen area Adult Education site. The new center, located at 4305 N. McColl, houses over 230 students pursuing a GED certificate or attending classes to improve their English speaking or writing skills.

Region One ESC has Adult Education sites throughout the region in Harlingen at the TSTC campus, Pharr, McAllen, and the Rio Grande City area, also on the TSTC campus. Classes are held year-round at the various locations.

Region One Education Service Center (www.esc1.net) serves over 390,000 students and educators in seven counties in south Texas including Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata counties. Region One works to assist school districts in improving student performance, assist districts to operate more efficiently and economically, and implement initiatives assigned by the legislature or the Commissioner of Education.
