Baby congratulations go out to Alejandro & Kimberly Tamayo of McAllen, whose baby son Alejandro Francisco Tamayo, Jr. was born in Edinburg on March 24, 2009. Happy grandparents include Reyes & Silvia Tamayo and Eddie & Alice Edwards . . .
Congratulations also go out to the new officers of the Junior League of McAllen, who were introduced at their annual April luncheon last week. They include President Kristy Ochoa, President-Elect Denise Garcia, Treasurer Kirsten Vinson, Assistant Treasurer Michelle Palacios, VP of Communications Rebecca Solis, VP of Community Affairs Lynse Guerra, VP of Finance Ann Westerman, and VP of Membership Ann Rowland. May they all have a year full of friendship as well as profitable fundraising for our community!
Outgoing President Eva Tavarez not only thanked all of the league members who have worked so hard over the past year, she also thanked her family, most of whom were present! Good natured outgoing First Husband Ronnie Tavarez even took part in the skit, though he might possibly have been upstaged by the singing skills of troubadour Tony Godinez, who happens to be good at both country and Western as well as rap. Think “Baby Got League!”
Saw fun tablemates and sustainers Connie Norton-Fielder, Maricela Gomez, Tina Martin, Ann Williams, Dee Treviño, Ann Moore, and Geen Wilkins. Geen’s daughter-in-law Rachel Wilkins is a new provisional, while Dee and I have new provisional daughters — Marianna Wright and Stephanie Potter . . .
Another sustainer, Adelina Garza, was also happy to welcome her daughter Sonia Silva as a provisional . . .
The rest the new JLM hardworking provisional class includes Amy Booth, Christina Calvillo, Chanel Cantu, Christina Caric-Ball, Stephanie Cullum, Shannon Garza, Melissa Gonzalez, Myra Gonzalez, Cristina Guerra, Monica Guerra, Liliana Honeycutt, Fabiola Jeffries, Alexis Jelinek, and Lilia Ledesma . . .
Also included in this group, which will finish their course in a record six months, are Lesli Liles, Casey McDonald, Virna Maldonado, Cassandra Moreno, Gladys Riva, Renee Rodriguez-Betancourt, Lourdes Servantes, Cayla Smith, Christina Smith, Heather Taylor, and Rubi Yzaguirre . . .
Out of that lovely group of 29 provisional members, if you ask for “Christina,” you might hear four replies!
These ladies received “Lizzie” awards as “wide receivers and over achievers:” Ann Rowland, Denise Garcia, Veronica Cantu, Olicia Hinojosa, Zinnia Elizondo, and Monica Martinez. A big “way to go” and pats on the back are in order!
Saw some of these new sustainers Maricruz Abbott, Lisa Hettler, Rhonda Koepke, Patty Summers, and Karen Williams, who are probably all way too young and are just sneaking into the group . . .
Also too young, these ladies were honored as five year actives: Donna Bzibziak, Lynse Guerra, Heather Marks, Jill Pebley, and Gracie Sturdivant . . .
Birthday greetings for today go out to Drucilla Vinger and Bill Ranganath . . .
And for tomorrow, happy birthday wishes are being sent to Paul Bergh, Thelma Magallan , and James McAllen, III . . .
Ladies who are members of the Literary Luncheon League need to remember our book review meeting today, hosted by Gayle Runnels and Pat Jarvis . . .
