The First Presbyterian Church of McAllen continues its guest artists recitals of classical music on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. with an array of accomplished musicians featuring the trio of Geoffrey Wong, violin, Benjamin Ponder, cello and Dan Steenken, piano.
Wong maintains a private violin studio in McAllen through which many young musicians have passed on their way to places in the All-Region and All-State orchestras and even careers in music. Wong is best known in the community as the concertmaster of the Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Benjamin Ponder, an employee of the McAllen Public School District as orchestra director of the Brown Middle School Orchestra. He has served many years as the princpal cellist of the VSO. Over the past several years he has assembled his cello students throughout the Valley into a unique ensemble known as Camarata Celistas.
The ensemble was recently invited to perform in the rotunda of the state capitol in Austin. Dan Steenken is also an employee of theMcAllen district serving as accompanist for school choral groups. He is celebrated as an outstanding concert soloist and has appeared as soloist with the VSO.
The concerts are presented free of charge and the public is invited and welcomed.
