The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the City of McAllen Parks & Recreation Department are gearing up for the 27th Annual Candlelight Posada to be held at Archer Park on Dec. 4 and 5. The committee began meeting in April and are now looking for sponsors, volunteers, parade entries, and vendors interested in participating this year.

Applications are now available for non-profit organizations who are interested in being vendors at this year’s event. Over 30 taste-tempting food booths can sell items such as fajita tacos, funnel cakes, buñuelos, hot chocolate, and roasted corn.

Schools, businesses, and organizations are highly encouraged to build a lighted float and participate in this year’s parade. “Last year we had 90 parade floats each extremely unique and artistic. Everyone did a wonderful job and we’re excited to see what’s in store this year,” said Annabell Cortina, Director of Special Events & Media for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. “We will also have many cash prizes for the best floats.”

In order to make Candlelight Posada a success, the committee is also seeking partnerships with the local business community. “Last year, Candlelight Posada attracted over 25,000 people from around the community. This is a great opportunity for businesses to show their support and promote their business as well,” said Cortina.

The event kicks off with a lighted Christmas parade on Main Street and the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas tree on Friday night and continues throughout the evening with plenty of entertainment for the entire family. Teen Town and Little Town are big attractions for teens and small children with plenty of games and activities. On Saturday night, the community joins in singing along with the nativity procession of the re-enactment of Mary & Joseph seeking shelter. Musical entertainment will follow throughout the evening for the entire family.

All applications for parade, vendors, and sponsors are available at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. For more information, please contact Annabell Cortina at 956-682-2871 or e-mail acortina@mcallencvb.com.
