Best wishes on their wedding are sent to Meredith Hockstetler & Andrew Hall, who tied the knot last Saturday, January 3, 2009 — a wonderful beginning to the New Year . . .

Congratulations to Erin Smith of Sharyland, who has committed to the equestrian team at Texas A&M for next year. She and her horse, King of Hearts, both looked majestic in a recent photo. I remember her as a little tyke loving to ride . . .

Saw Dr. Betty Medina, who somehow manages to look great, even in scrubs; and had a good visit with Sherry Gossett right after that!

Thank you to Cony duVale, who called to wish us Happy New Year. With her example, we can all add an easy resolution for 2009 — keeping in better touch with friends . . .

Same with Gretchen Garrett & L. D. Clopton, who are also quite communication- and friend-friendly!

Fulfilling a resolution to keep up with self-improvement (or upkeep?), met the lovely Mayte Garcia at the Lancôme counter at Dillard’s. Yes, she helped and she has one of the primo qualifications for working at a makeup counter — gorgeous, poreless skin!

Need another resolution to improve your 2009? How about volunteer work? Kudos to the new board officers at the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen: President Ned Wallace, Vice President Tim Smith, Treasurer Susan Turley, and Secretary Shawn Seale . . .

Another non-profit, Children’s Advocacy Center- Estrella’s House, was the recipient of an $11,000 grant from the Junior League of McAllen. Kristy Hallock, CAC-Estrella’s House head of PR & Marketing, was among those pleased that the grant will be used to purchase a Secure Digital Forensic Imaging Tele Medicine Camera . . .

Understand that for famed cookie baker Mary Ashley’s recent birthday, the whole of St. John’s Episcopal celebrated. Her cookies are so good that the church in Port Isabel served them to their congregation also . . .

In keeping with that talent, Ann Greenfield has sent out a call for church council cookies in February, swearing that they can be frozen now. Hope she calls Mary . . .

More info will be coming next week, but keep in mind that Leadership Edinburg Class XX will host a “Shooting for Safety” skeet shooting competition on January 24th. Call either Flo at 279-4451 or Anissa at 789-0914 for details . . .

Happy birthdays for yesterday are wished to Pam Wingate, Caroline Moore, Marge Bentsen, and Theresa Garza . . .

For today, a happy birthday best goes out to fabulous volunteer Yolanda Barrera, Lee Bourg, Andy Lerma, and Jett Rupper. Blowing out a few birthday candles tomorrow are Thelma Santos and Frotzie Kormeier . . .

Just have to add a few more birthday wishes for this Friday, January 9th, to Sandra Bleakney, Vicki Aikman, Doris Stansell, Ken Wantland, and Renee Hinojosa . . .

Note to all readers: the following phone number is not the newspaper’s phone number; it is a number just for this column. Call in your “I See You” news to 686-8056, or mail to the Town Crier. Remember, at least one week ahead!
