McAllen’s Garza Elementary won the Destination ImagiNation Regional Tournament on Feb. 14.

They will compete in the state competition April 4 in Houston.

Destination ImagiNation is a non-profit organization that promotes creative problem solving and teamwork. Teams are comprised of five to seven students and are asked to solve a specific challenge.

The “Lucky Seven Sleuths” from Garza participated in Challenge D: Private DI. Their challenge was to research six film genres and six sleuths, create a device out of specified materials, as well as prepare for a six-minute improv skit.

Garza Elementary has been participating in Destination ImagiNation for the past three years and has made McAllen ISD proud by bringing home a trophy each year. DI is part of one of the afterschool enrichment programs offered at Garza Elementary.
