Discover how to organically grow your own fruits and vegetables with Barbara Storz during the McAllen Nature Speaker Series on Jan. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Barbara Storz is the Extension Educator for Horticulture with Texas AgriLife Extension Service, part of the Texas A&M University System. She has a M.S. in Plant and Soil Science from Texas A&M and provides educational programs on fruit and vegetable production.
Her presentation, “Organic Vegetable Gardening in South Texas”, will focus on establishing garden beds that maximize nutrients and reduce weeds. She will also discuss organic fertilizers and insect and disease controls. Storz is one of the organizers of the San Juan Farmer’s Market, held monthly, with locally produced, organic vegetables. Some of her students will bring freshly harvested, organic, produce for sale. Please bring your own reusable bag to take home your organic produce.
Admission is $3 per person. The McAllen Nature Speaker Series is hosted by Quinta Mazatlan and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce as a means of disseminating ideas and information about our natural environment and the importance of protecting and conserving these wonders. The series is sponsored by Thurmond Eye Associates every Thursday evening at Quinta Mazatlan through March 2009. For more information contact (956) 681-3370 or visit www.quintamazatlan.com.
