The University of Texas Pan American Ballet Folklorico will present "Escaparate 2009" Invitational Dance Concert featuring invited guests PSJA ISD North High School Grupo Folklorico Ichtequi on May 1 at 7:30 p.m. The invited group will perform with the UTPA Ballet Folklorico in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and as part of a cultural exchange and community outreach project.

Every year the Ballet Folklorico selects a dance group from the folkloric community to perform in a formal dance concert on the University campus. The outreach project serves to preserve and promote folkloric dance in the Rio Grande Valley, promote higher education, and most importantly to showcase the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of local dance groups and their directors.

The Ballet Folklorico will host a series of events for the 21 local folkloric dance students and their director. The event will include a workshop, lecture demonstration, school concert, production rehearsal, and culminate with a public concert.

The North High School Grupo Folklorico Ichtequi is under the direction of MartĂ-n Hinojosa. Mr. Hinojosa was a principal dancer with the UTPA Ballet Folklorico for numerous years while he pursued his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

Members of the North High School Grupo Folklorico Ichtequi are Edgar Amaya, Irvin Becerra, Julio Becerra, Ana Cisneros, Alejandro GarcĂ-a, Josefina GarcĂ-a, Fernanda González, Quermit Guerrero, Ingel Hernández, Samara Hernández, Fernanda Jiménez, Lennette Longoria, Alejandra Lopez, Sheila Lopez, Luz MartĂ-nez, Nidia Mendoza, Andrea Navarrete, Adriana RodrĂ-guez, Luis Sánchez, Denise Vera, Krystal Villanueva.

The public is invited to support "Escaparate 2009" on May 1 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $3 general admission and will be available at the door. The concert will be held in the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium.
