Grandparental congratulations go out to Paula & Paul Moxley for the birth of little Piper Viola Haynes, born March 25, 2009, in Fredericksburg, Texas. Proud, first-time parents are Amber & Brady Haynes, who are thrilled to welcome their baby daughter to their home in Boerne . . .

The Junior League of McAllen’s sustainers just elected their new officers for next year, so congratulations to Chairman Tina Martin, Vice-Chairman Candie Wicker, Secretary Debbie Groves, and Treasurer Marylee Alaniz . . .

Saw Libby Brown on her way to the meeting, then saw her friendly spouse Jim right after that . . .

Understand that Lisa Oliveira and Stephanie Potter had lots of fun talking about horses and participating in a review of Bonfire of the Vanities, by Tom Wolfe. Book clubs are good fun . . .

Our own Literary Luncheon League heard Betty Bloomfield review Ladies with Options, by Cynthia Hartwick. We had lots of laughs with lunch while wishing that we, too, could have invested in some real winners. No one, however, moved to kick in some $$ and switch to an investment club . . .

Saw Joyce Smith, as well as Jolene Vitko and Susie Robertson, each sporting a gorgeous shade of not-quite-navy dark blue . . .

Susie and her nominating committee of Darlene Hart and Terry Miller deserve kudos for their instant report for next year’s new officers, consisting of President Gay Hill, Vice-President Ann Williams, and Secretary-Treasurer Mel Johnstone. The moral to be learned here, by Ann in particular, is to never miss a meeting or else . . .

Incoming Prez Hill was wearing that pretty color — chartreuse — that the queen wore to the Kentucky Derby . . .

No fooling! Today, April 1st, members of the IMAS Advisory Council are reminded to attend their luncheon meeting at the museum’s industrial lab, where the likes of Anna Mary Sanchez, Mary Alice Magaña, Jennifer Lewis, Sonia Champion, Lisa Saldivar, Myra Polon, Anthony Crisafulli, and Bill Raganath might be seen . . .

Tomorrow night, April 2nd, the Valley Symphony Orchestra will present another fabulous concert at McAllen’s Civic Center Auditorium, with a piano concerto by guest pianist Yuliya Gorenman, music from “Sweet Charity,” and Copland’s “Outdoor Overture.” Call the symphony office at 661-1615 for tickets . . .

This coming Saturday, April 4th, all Valley ladies belonging to a Pan American Round Table are reminded to attend Pan American Observance Day at McAllen Country Club, hosted by the PSJA Table. Elsie Perez of the Edinburg Table was just elected State Director, while McAllen’s own B. B. Crane will be the new State Treasurer, and Lily Torrez will be new Area C Director.

Happy end-of-March birthdays for yesterday are wished to Beth Lange, JoAnn Mitchell, Dell Hardwicke, and Rafael Adame, III . . .

Happy April 1st birthdays are wished to Sheri Fox and Diane McLarty, and happy anniversary to Marilyn & Bob Hawkins . . .

For tomorrow, April 2nd, birthday greetings go to Jane Jansen and Lupita Arteaga. Must add here that Jane is so good about Lent that I feel somehow guilty . . .
