September is Hunger Action Month and the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is busy with a variety of events to help make an impact on hunger in the Rio Grande Valley.
Hunger Action Month brings the issue of hunger to light and emphasizes “action” over “awareness” of our hunger problem. This year, the theme is “30 Ways in 30 Days,” and urges people to find a creative, easy and effective way to help combat hunger. There is a Hunger Action Month calendar on the Food Bank of the RGV website that can help remind you of small ways you can help. The website is: www.foodbankrgv.com.
The Food for Blues food drive and raffle is from 6 to 10 p.m., Sept. 25th, at Johnny’s BBQ, 703 W. Ferguson, Pharr. Public Radio 88FM is a co-sponsor of this lively Jazz and Blues music event. Slated to perform are Tim Gonzalez (Nashville harmonica vituroso), Vito Del Valle Blues Revue, Joe Shull and the Blues Posse. Admission is 2 canned food items and $5 per person. Free BBQ while it lasts.
