Traditionally, the beginning of the summer months is the most challenging for blood centers as donation slows and supplies begin to dwindle due to its constant demand.

“Roll up your sleeves and give the gift of life” says DHR Lab Director, Dennis Davis. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood; therefore Doctors Hospital at Renaissance staff members will participate in this event which will aid in the replenishing of blood supplies.

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance will host their annual summer blood drive on Friday, May 29, in the Women’s Hospital at Renaissance parking area between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The United Blood Service personnel are elated with the efforts of the DHR team members and their commitment to serve the community. A central location will be provided to the community to donate blood at the UBS Mobile Unit located on the DHR campus.

The donors will be provided with a t-shirt for their efforts. To donate blood please remember that you must be at least 17 of age or older; weigh 110 pounds or more; show a photo ID; and be in current good health. Donors can give blood approximately every 56 days (or eight weeks). For more information on donating blood, please call the United Blood Services at 682-1314 or visit their office located at 1400 S. 6th Street in McAllen.
