Seven area JROTC student cadets were given bronze medals by the rio Grande Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR has awarded ROTC medals since 1967 because the ROTC is such an important source of trained officers for our armed forces.
Selection of the student to receive the DAR JROTC award is made by their instructors. Recipients must have demonstrated loyalty and patriotism, and earned a record of military and scholastic achievement during their participation in a JROTC program. They must be in the upper 25 percent of their classes in JROTC and in academic subjects. They must have shown qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and a patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training.
