Eric Alan Holguin, a 2005 graduate of Sharyland High School and a graduating senior, delivered the commencement address to approximately 900 graduating students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on May 16, 2009.

Eric had the honor of being the first student male speaker chosen and was selected from a large number of students to be this year’s speaker. His speech embraced opportunity, goals, experience, and passion. These topics relate to his work which included stints as advertising manager and marketing director for the “Island Wave” student newspaper. He was also a marketing intern with Concrete Street in which he wrote many releases and handled promotions. Eric also spent a summer in New York City working for Suzelle Enterprises, a talent agency with clientele throughout the entertainment industry.

He is a person with many skills and has been involved in many university activities such as: Student Government Association, Student Diversity Committee, as “Izzy,” the university mascot and a member of the Beta Theta Pi. This fraternity is dedicated to preparing young men for the responsibilities of leadership and citizenship. It is his involvement and participation in activities and work that has given him a great wealth of knowledge in the field of communications.
