Belated baby congratulations to Janie & Albert Ochoa of Edinburg, who welcomed their little son Thomas Alberto into their family last January 28, 2009, which is also Janie’s birthday. In addition, Thomas was welcomed by big sis Talina Victoria, and grandparents Yolanda & Albert Ochoa, Sr. of Edinburg, and Catalina & Juan Rodriguez of McAllen . . .

Tiffany & Chris Henderson were thrilled to have baby no. 4, daughter Emmory Faith, who was born February 25, 2009. Her big brother and sisters, Gunnar, Westyn, and Mallory, were happy to have a smaller sibling, and grandparents Karen & Jim Henderson, Cynthia Mills, and Danny Mills are proud of the new addition . . .

And another baby congrats goes to Susannah & Ernesto Garza of Mission, whose baby daughter Charlotte Elle, was born on March 5, 2009. Her big brother Max welcomed the baby into the family, as well as grandparents Olga Garza and Ernesto Garza . . .

Had fun talking to Janie, Susan, and grandmom Cynthia, and speaking as a grandmother, I’m proud of you new parents who are able to line up car seats, portable cribs, play mats, bouncy chairs - the list goes on and on. While all of the new or improved inventions are just incredible, transportation of equipment requires the skill of a field marshal to merely take the little ones to the beach for a weekend . . .

One of the many things I’ve learned lately (through the JLM newsletter) is that Junior League provisional Alexis Jelinek has her own business, “Confections and Sweets,” selling custom baked goods. Order with her at alexisjelinek@ gmail.com . . .

Congratulations to Allison Nicole Garza of McAllen, who was crowned Miss Rio Grande Valley Teen. Her parents are Irma & Carlos Garza . . .

Saw Nancy & Rick Hawkins and Cindy & Ray Russell enjoying lunch out . . .

Talked to Lana Rodriguez, who wants to give a special thanks to the McAllen Country Club employees and members, Frost Bank, and all who helped her out with donations from the recent golf tournament . . .

Want to see some art and science exhibits? Go to our own International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 Nolana, where you can enjoy UTPA art prof Paul Valadez’s exhibit entitled “Fragments,” paintings of border signs representing the Valley, along with many other interesting exhibits . . .

For yesterday, June 9th, happy birthday wishes go out to Pat Jarvis, Mary McKeever, Janette McDonald, and Lindsey Baucum . . .

Happy birthday today to Kim Snyder, Russell Erps, Courtney Forthuber, Cindy Russell, Bill Sullivan, Mia Klug, and to Sylvia Cardenas, who wins the “most cheerful about a birthday” prize! And a happy anniversary for today goes out to Keesha & Charles Zey . . .

For tomorrow, happy birthday to Ed Vela and Kate Littleton, and a happy anniversary wish is sent to Pat & Glenn Jarvis, who just barely missed her birthday date! I can relate to that . . .

Happy special 10th anniversary this Friday, June 12th, to Kim & Vernon Weckbacher. It’s also his birthday. Hmm — they probably planned it that way so she would only have the one date to remember. You know how women are with dates!
