Saw June & Jim Ezell dining out on Christmas Day with Humberto “Bert” Peña, who has been in town visiting his lovely mother, Olympia Peña . . .

Had a fun Yuletide visit with the Hawkins — Marilyn, Bob, Dinah, and Buddy, and heard that Nancy & Rick had her parents in to visit . . .

Saw Blaine Holcomb leaving with his clan, daughter Kathy & Gary Toothaker, sons Jim and Steve plus probably many more family members enjoying the holiday . . .

Also saw the Links, Guerras, Falleks, Wallaces, Tways, and the Rankin-Picard families and friends having a family good time. No Chevy Chase-type Christmas Vacation here in the Valley . . .

Had a chat with Leslie Ewers of Barn White about entertaining, and we agreed that most restaurants are too loud. She advises turning the lights down and lighting lots of candles for home entertaining, plus soft background music. Tracy Crain is one of the queens of getting ready way ahead of time for your entertaining . . .

Hey TCU fans — how ‘bout those horned frogs? Marty Hamilton was happy for all of us! Thank goodness we still have bowl games and the Super Bowl to look forward to!

So for your Happy New Year at home, turn down the lights, have an elegant or casual meal for a crowd, or a cuppa soup for one — watch an old movie or football and start 2009 off right . . .

Next Tuesday, January 6th, members of the McAllen Pan American Round Table will start off the New Year right with a luncheon program on Costa Rica, planned by Tula Sanchez and Marcia Ingram. Many of the members just went there last fall for their convention, so they know Costa Rica . . .

Just a few of yesterday’s birthday celebrants included Mary Alice Magaña, famed artiste Ann Moore and Geoff Hall . . .

For today, New Year’s Eve, Carol Seal can celebrate, and what a nice income tax deduction she was for her parents . . .
