On Thursday, Feb. 19, the International Womenís Board of the University of Texas-Pan American Foundation hosted a luncheon at the International Trade and Technology Building honoring the recipients of the 2008 scholarships for Summer Study Abroad.
Some 65 IWB members and UTPA faculty enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the campus caterer. After lunch, guests were treated to a number of reports from returning students who studied in such places as Spain, Peru, London, Vienna, Prague and Budapest.
Not only did the students express their thanks and appreciation for the opportunity to broaden their education in such a unique way, but they also informed their audience about their studies and regaled them with amusing anecdotes about their many wonderful experiences. All expressed a desire to inform other students of this outstanding opportunity offered to high achieving students by IWB.
The Summer Study Abroad program is one of the major activities of the IWB and is funded by their numerous fundraising activities and by matching funds from the UTPA Foundation. Membership in the IWB is open to anyone interested in supporting the University of Texas-Pan American, not only through this exceptional program, but also through the many service activities which they provide. They also enjoy a full program of social activities throughout the year.
Mark your calendar for Tuesday evening, April 21 as the UTPA Theatre Department and IWB present Neil Simonís Plaza Suite Play. IWB Dinner Theatre tickets are $50 per person and include wine, dinner and the play. Sponsorships are being sought and proceeds benefit the IWB Summer Study Abroad Scholarship Fund.
