Rev. Max Grubb, pastor of the First Christian Church, in McAllen will be installed as Rotary Club of McAllen’s 2010/11 President, on June 18.
Rotary was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, a young Chicago attorney who regularly gathered a few business acquaintances for fellowship, professional camaraderie and service to their community. It was named “Rotary” because the meeting rotated among the offices of the participants. Today, there are over 30,000 Rotary Clubs located in 162 countries. One great privilege of membership is the opportunity it affords to build relationships and establish service throughout the world.
“Max entered ministry late in life, having had prosperous careers in business, financial management, marketing, and as a Chamber of Commerce Executive. He has more energy and enthusiasm than those half his age. Max is involved in community groups relative to his church’s mission. He serves on the board for the Hope Family Health Center and is past president of the regional Habitat For Humanity. Max will uphold the high traditions of our club, by providing the best of his executive ability to the furtherance of the interest of our club and by carrying forward the Object of Rotary”; said Landon Liska, outgoing president.
Weekly luncheon meetings are held each Wednesday at noon (meeting beginning at 12:15) in the ‘Salvation Army’ function room, located on North 23rd Street in McAllen. Virtually all membership in Rotary is based upon a ‘classification’ which describes the distinct business or professional service that the Rotarian renders to society. If interested in becoming a member of Rotary International, contact Max by calling 687-8519, or any member listed below.
