Too many children in Hidalgo County live in fear, fear of what their parent or caretaker might do to them. The fear of being totally alone and neglected, the fear they will never have a home they can call their own.
Every day CASA volunteers throughout Hidalgo County help children replace their world of fear with one of hope. The volunteers are everyday people just like you. The only special background or equipment you need is the heart to care for some of the most vulnerable children in our community — and the determination to do something about it.
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a nonprofit organization that plays a unique and vital role in the community. The advocates are trained volunteers who are appointed by a state court judge to speak for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are brought before the courts. CASA volunteers are of vital importance to these children.
The next training for interested and committed individuals will begin on Feb. 8. Training will be held at the CASA office, 1001 S. 10th St., Edinburg. For more information about how you can help, call CASA at 381-HOLD/381-0346.
