South Texas Independent School District (STISD) will open enrollment for the 2010-11 school year on Friday, Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. and close when the schools have reached capacity. To pre-enroll at any STISD school, log on to www.stisd.net and click on Enroll. All students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students who will start the seventh or eighth grade in August 2010 may pre-enroll at the junior high. Those who will start the ninth or 10th grade in August 2010 may pre-enroll at any STISD high school. To be eligible, students must reside in Cameron, Hidalgo or Willacy County.

STISD offers Rio Grande Valley students an educational alternative at five magnet schools:

South Texas Preparatory Academy in Edinburg (Grades 7 & 8);

South Texas Business, Education & Technology Academy (BETA) in Edinburg (Grades 9-12);

South Texas High School for Health Professions (Med High) in Mercedes (Grades 9-12);

South Texas Academy of Medical Technology (Med Tech) in San Benito (Grades 9-12); and

The Science Academy of South Texas (Sci Tech) in Mercedes (Grades 9-12).

Because it is a public school district, there is no cost to attend any STISD school. Bus transportation is also provided. STISD high schools provide students with a rigorous academic curriculum and specialized instruction in a professional career field.
