Take a journey into outer space during the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands’ upcoming Friday Night with a Naturalist presentation.

On March 20 from 6 to 7 p.m., Dr. Nicolas Pereyra from the University of Texas — Pan American will guide audience members far into space during his presentation, “Tour of the Solar System and Beyond.”

According to Pereyra, his presentation will include “a general presentation of our current understanding of the Solar System, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the Observable Universe.” The professor will also talk about quasars, bright centers of galaxies that often outshine the host galaxy itself.

Pereyra has pursued his research interests at institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh, the Universidad de los Andes in Venezuela, and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He teaches Astronomy at the UT Pan American and helps coordinates the University’s various astronomy programs. Pererya resides in Edinburg with his family.

“Friday Night with a Naturalist” is a free, fun, and educational family program held on the third Friday of each month. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and presentations begin at 6 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Space is limited, so please call ahead to reserve your seat(s).
