Work hard, play hard. This motto will be put to the test this summer by 18-year old Alan Sanchez of Edinburg. Sanchez is one of 13 Boys & Girls Club (BGCA) teens nationwide who have successfully participated in the AT&T-sponsored Junior Staff program at their local Clubs and are now participating in AT&T’s summer apprentice program.
For the next six weeks, Sanchez will receive practical, hands-on job training in several areas of the AT&T retail business, including inventory, merchandising, and customer service, as well as gain a general knowledge of AT&T’s diverse products and services.
“I’m extremely excited by this opportunity and the doors it can potentially open up for me,” said Sanchez, a recent graduate from Edinburg High School and a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Edinburg. “I am looking forward to taking the lessons I’ve learned through the Junior Staff program and applying them during my apprenticeship.”
The Junior Staff program is designed to foster leadership skills and provide career experience for youth ages 13-18. These young people explore career strengths, weaknesses and interests through team building exercises and community service projects, as well as special programs like AT&T’s summer apprenticeship program. The Junior Staff program also teaches teens how to build a resume and conduct a job interview.
