Out of 44 counties in the state of Texas, the Hidalgo County Elections department received the Honorable Mention Excellence Award by the League of Women Voters of Texas for the recent improvements made to their website.

The Elections department was recognized for their commitment to helping county residents by providing accurate and easy to find election information.

As a nonpartisan political organization, The League of Women Voters of Texas (L WV-TX) encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government. An online survey of the 242 existing official Texas county websites was conducted during the last 2 weeks of August 2016, and Hidalgo County was rated among the top counties in the state.

Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramón thanked the court for their continued support and commended Election Analyst Hilda A. Salinas for the work she has done in updating the website. Since February 2016, the elections website has been revamped and now includes easier to find links to voting schedules, sample ballots and voter applications; links to the departments social media accounts; and, most importantly, the website has more voting information for Spanish language voters.

"We have received a lot of positive feedback on the changes," said Mrs. Salinas. "The calls to our office are less frequent due to the information being easily provided on our website."

Ms. Salinas also thanked all of the departments who participate in assisting with the update and who regularly share their social media post, they include the County Clerk’s Office, Public Affairs Division, Precinct 4 Office, Precinct 2 Office, Precinct 1 Office and the IT department.
