‘Twas just days before Christmas, when all through the halls,
Teachers and students were dreaming of malls.
Stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
But school was in session, so no one was there.
The children were struggling to stay in their seats,
While holiday traffic filled all the streets.
Moms in their beanies and dads in their caps
Were too busy at work to think about naps.
When all through the halls, they heard a loud bell
Students and teachers rejoiced, there was even a yell.
Out toward the doors, they flew like a flash
Jumped into their cars, and made a mad dash.
To La Plaza to Leona to Quips and Quotes and more
They rushed to find gifts at each favorite store.
Then home to wrap presents and find time to bake
So they could enjoy the rest of their break.
Before they knew it, there was a sound on the roof
Signaling Santa’s arrival, they heard every hoof.
Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.
Santa came down the chimney until the floor he did hit
He delivered the gifts then left lickety-split.
Everyone wondered what their gifts would be
But they waited ‘till morning to look under the tree.
They felt grateful for clothing, gadgets, and cash
They were relieved that they didn’t find black coal and ash.
But they couldn’t help hoping for one final gift
For the clock to move slowly, do you get my drift?
They wished for peace all over this earth
They wished for schools full of learning and mirth.
They wished for their students to all be blessed
And prayed really hard for some much-needed rest.
That night as they nestled all snug in their beds
No visions of paperwork danced in their heads.
Instead they dreamt of joy and good cheer
Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!
