13 TERRORS, a feature length horror film, will have a preview screening at the Black Box theater in the ELABS, formerly ARHU, building at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg 7 PM on Friday, January 20. The projectis the 21st feature produced through the summer film program of the Theatre/Television/Film Department of UTRGV and the first omnibus project ever produced through the program. Containing multiple independent story lines, not unlike VHS, or The ABC’s of Death, 13 Texas Terrors was shot entirely on the UTRGV Edinburg campus with a student cast and crew during the Summer 1 session last June and July.
Associate Professor David Bennett Carren, the film’s executive producer,
directed some of the segments. Students wrote, directed and starred in the rest.
“This was an opportunity for students, as part of a class, to gain the experience of working on a feature film schedule while also earning credits that will be listed on the Internet Movie Data Base, the bible of the industry,” Carren said.
“We are the only university in the country that offers the experience of producing a feature film as part of its theatre/film curriculum,” Carren continued. “It’s a rare and exciting opportunity, and the students had a great time besides.”
For information on the screening, please contact Elva Galvan at the university box office at 956-358-6799 or University Theatre Productions at 956-665-3581. Admission is free.
