Officially Files Appointment of Campaign Treasurer

Committed to public service, Eloy Pulido pledges to run for Hidalgo County Judge on his proven track record and to focus his campaign on the actual issues that affect Hidalgo County residents.

“Our county is facing some serious issues and I'm ready to take them on,” Pulido said.

On November 15 of last year, Pulido filed the documents to appoint Manuel Chapa as his Campaign Treasurer and begin his campaign. Mr. Pulido will be running in the March 2018 Democratic Primary.

Citing concerns with a runaway county budget, the excessive cost and questionable location of a new courthouse, the need for economic development and tourism, along with the need to lower the county tax rate, while also adequately funding indigent health care, Pulido offers his experience as proof that he knows what it takes to lead this county.

“I served as a full-time county judge because that's what our taxpayers deserve. I have a record of setting ambitious goals and accomplishing them while overseeing and maintaining a fiscally sound budget,” Pulido said. “I'm ready to do it again as your next County Judge.”

When elected as the 27th Hidalgo County Judge, Pulido was immediately confronted with many serious problems facing the county. “When I took office, there was $75,000 in the General Fund. It was close to an emergency situation that required immediate action,” recalls Pulido. “Hiring and wages were frozen, travel was cut by 50 percent, purchasing was restricted, and many other measures were implemented to drastically cut spending.” Within three months, the budget was stabilized.

Also during Pulido’s tenure as County Judge, several long overdue needs that were vital to Hidalgo County were addressed. These included building a new county jail, a new Juvenile Detention Center, and a new Adult Restitution Center. Additional deputies were hired to patrol the rural areas of the county and to staff the new county jail. The unemployment rate was reduced by developing a Work Development Board, zoning requirements for infrastructure needs in colonias were strongly enforced, and employee pay and benefits were standardized. Veteran’s needs were also addressed through the creation of a Veteran’s Cemetery and the building of a Veteran’s Retirement Home.

“I want to support the County Commissioners with road projects that will help get congested traffic flowing smoothly and safely, to ensure that the Drainage District keeps ditches and outfalls clean and debris-free to alleviate flooding, and to support cities with their Urban County funding used for infrastructure improvements.” says Pulido. “We also need to reinstate an equitable, standardized payscale for county employees.”

With a long list of issues to address, Eloy Pulido plans a dynamic transformation of Hidalgo County Government through the creation of Citizen Advisory Committees that will facilitate community based decision making. As County Judge, Pulido will strive for efficiency and transparency with a mission of serving the residents of Hidalgo County in an effective and accountable manner.
