Award $7,000 to community members battling cancer

PHARR – More than 150 community members attended the 5th Annual PSJA Track of Hope Cancer Awareness Walk hosted by PSJA ISD’s Student Councils on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the PSJA Stadium. During the event, students awarded seven community members battling cancer with $1,000 checks to help fund their medical expenses.

Aware that many members of the community are affected by cancer, each year PSJA ISD high school students organize the community event to help raise funds. Student Council members from the following campuses volunteered to organize and carryout the event: PSJA Early College HS; PSJA North Early College HS; PSJA Memorial Early College HS; PSJA Southwest Early College HS and PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Jefferson Early College HS.

“Track of Hope allows us to get in touch with our community,” said Kayla Guajardo a senior at PSJA ECHS. “We had a chance to raise awareness to community members. This was an experience that no one can ever replace.”
