EDINBURG – The United Way of South Texas recently announced that the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District was the top recipient of its Golden Apple Award. The is the first-time Edinburg CISD has received this prestigious award.
The award is presented to the school district, contributing the most donations to the United Way. Edinburg CISD educators and staff raised $90,596 last year for the non-profit organization, which funds more than 100 programs throughout Hidalgo and Starr counties.
“We are very honored to have received this award,” said ECISD Superintendent René Gutiérrez. “We are excited to learn that we played a role in securing some of the funding for these great programs. We admire the great work that the United Way accomplishes for our students and our community.”
ECISD Transportation Director, Alonzo Barbosa, was also recognized as the 2016 District Campaign Coordinator of the Year. Barbosa helped to coordinate the largest campaign in the District’s history by encouraging principals and directors to support the effort.
