McALLEN – The students of Milam Elementary have set an $18,000 goal during their Jump Rope for Heart campaign.

After raising $17,600 last year coach Errol Smith said a few hundred dollars more should be attainable.

“It was record for us,” he said. “We want to go bigger this year and those who donate $50 or more come to the camp out.”

As an incentive for students to raise $50 or more an elaborate camp out at the school has been organized which includes pitching tents, watching movies on the gymnasium wall, making smores and taking out all the games Smith has at his disposal.

Another tier of the fundraiser is $25 that will grant the student access to the lock-in which includes playing Nintendo Wii and basketball.

The new pavilion at Milam elementary will be completed by the time the camp out is held. New four square and tetherball courts were added along with new concrete to replace the caliche.

The Jump Rope for Heart campaign runs until April 5.
