PHARR – This year, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) teamed up with the City of Pharr for the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge, sponsored by H-E-B, which started at the beginning of the year and will run until March 29. As part of the challenge, PSJA ISD has provided a variety of free fitness classes every week, encouraging staff and parents to take part in healthy activities.

Hosted by It’s Time Texas, a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving health in the state, the Challenge is a 12-week competition that unites and mobilizes schools, businesses, organizations, community members and city leaders toward the common goal of transforming their community’s health.

In addition to motivating the community to live healthier lives, the winning community at the end of the challenge will win an $1,800 grant for health-related projects and school districts will receive a trophy and special recognition. PSJA ISD is curretly placed 3rd statewide.

Recently, PSJA ISD was featured by It’s Time Texas for offering a variety of free fitness classes to members of the community every Monday andWednesday from 5 pm to 6 pm at the PSJA ISD Stadium in Pharr. Classes offered have included yoga, Zumba, CrossFit, kickboxing, body sculpting and even martial arts. Besides offering free classes, PSJA ISD has continued encouraging teachers and administration to take part in the Challenge by taking the Teacher Pledge, Principals Pledge and participate in daily fitness activities.

PSJA ISD would like to thank all community sponsors and instructors who have donated their time to provide these free classes.
