State competitors for the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) were recognized at the March 27 School Board meeting. They competed at the state competition in February in San Antonio. These McAllen Memorial High students include Adriana Gonzalez, Izabella Gutierrez and C.W. Phillips. Gonzalez and Gutierrez took first place as a team in the Business Services Operations Research Event. The event provided an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skills needed by management personnel. The team selected an actual local business operation  to design a research study where they conducted research, analyzed the results, prepared a strategic plan with a proposed budget and presented it. The team will compete at nationals in Anaheim, Calif. April 26-29. Phillips finished as a finalist in the Startup Business Plan Event. This consisted of a presentation to form a business.
