The McAllen School Board proclaimed March as Social Workers Month at its March 27 meeting. Social Workers are professionals best equipped to social issues which can block academic progress. These individuals are trained to think of innovative solutions to complex problems and their interventions continue to make a strong difference for young people at risk of academic failure. Social Workers provide service priorities such as individual work with students or parents, group work with students, parent support groups, teaming, advocacy, housing assistance and home visits. McAllen ISD social workers recognized included Irma Morales (Rowe Vertical Team), Connie Caballero (Memorial Vertical Team), Lorena Prado (McAllen High Vertical Team), Cristina Avila-Gonzalez (Pregnancy Related), Vanessa Rogers (Special Education) and Clari Rotunno (Special Education).
