Things don’t always go according to plan. At times, we may become annoyed or exasperated things didn’t go our way. Other times, we might find ourselves pleasantly surprised by an unexpected place, somewhere outside our normal element. Last week, on a day where it could not have been more welcomed, that’s exactly what happened. We had the brilliant idea of continuing Taco de Mayo but, while driving, we came across a sign that read “The Landmark Lounge”. It piqued our interest and, without too much thought, we pulled in, parked and stepped inside to find a new happy hour haven.
The Landmark Lounge is inside the Best Western Plus hotel. By morning, this cozy corner lounge literally serves as the designated area where hotel guests are welcomed to enjoy their continental breakfast but, come 4 o’clock, with a flicker of the light switch, this place goes from family-friendly to a laid-back watering hole.
Trisha: #WineDownWednesday was in full effect and I couldn’t wait for Gaby to join me in taking advantage of the featured Landmark Lounge special.
Gaby: That’s why we’re friends! There was an open bottle of a red blend and two wine glasses already waiting at the table.
Trisha: I knew you’d be parched, my dear.
While there wasn’t any live music (because you know how much we love to enjoy a good beverage paired with some good tunage), there was a TouchTunes machine right next to the bar.
Trisha: And I just so happened to have the app on my phone. Nothing like being the resident DJ.
Gaby: DJ Watts in da house!
Twenty dollars later, spent on our evening’s music selection, we must of felt right at home because without a second thought, we ordered another bottle of red blend and gleefully sang along without a care in the world.
Gaby: I think, at one point during the evening, I even put my feet up on the chair next to me because I felt completely relaxed and at ease. (sigh)
Trisha: I bet you would have lounged around in your PJs if given the chance.
Gaby: Don’t tempt me.
Trisha: We’ll save that for next time. (lol)
Since The Landmark Lounge does not serve food, they have partnered up with various, local food trucks to provide their clientele with some delicious bites. For the most part, there is a different food truck parked outside the bar every day that they are opened. During our Wednesday visit, we had the pleasure of tasting a new food truck on the scene by the name of Rock Ur Belly.
Gaby: They totally rocked my belly!
Trisha: They had me at “beef and chorizo blended burgers with crispy bacon”.
Rock Ur Belly is manned by the “Cruz Brothers and Fred”, all self-taught chefs, some who have even worked as Executive Chefs in local restaurants. While their menu has items like hamburgers and tacos, it is in no way your typical fast food. Every dish has a twist and a certain chef flair. The James Beard Foundation winner Concha Burger is a definite must-try menu item. Made with the actual Mexican sweetbread concha, this burger has a chorizo-infused patty, bacon and an egg with a side of truffle fries.
Trisha: I asked to hold back the egg.
Gaby: Why do you always have to hate on the things I love?
Trisha: I enjoy huevos just as much as you do, I just don’t like runny eggs.
Gaby: I may have to call it quits in this relationship.
Trisha: Ha! You know you can’t quit me.
If you’re not much of a burger fan, check out the beef tacos with cotija and crema or their super delicious Mole con Pollo y Arroz tacos, both served on a chipotle-infused corn tortilla. Don’t worry about waiting for your order. These guys are a class act and will bring your order to you inside The Landmark Lounge. You won’t have to skip a beat in sipping down your refreshments.
What The Landmark Lounge lacks in size, they more than make up for with great service, a relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of adult beverages. We love their simple promos like “$2 off all Tequila because it’s Tuesday” and their #WineDownWednesday. And of course, it wouldn’t be a bar without our favorite time of day, Happy Hour! Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 4:00p.m.-7:00 p.m. ($3 Domestics; $4 Imports, Wells, Margaritas)
The Landmark Lounge is located at 2708 S. Business 281, Edinburg, TX 78539. You can reach them at (956) 318-0442 or follow them via their various social media platforms @thelandmarklounge. Their hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 pm.; Thursday-Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.; Closed on Sunday.
