PHARR – A total of 18 educators from four Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD ( PSJA) elementary campuses were recently named to the Renaissance National Honor Roll for advancing students' achievement in reading.

Renaissance®, the leader in K–12 learning analytics, recognizes educators around the nation who have implemented reading or math practice programs successfully and have led their students to meet or exceed data targets that research shows leads to significant student growth. Renaissance National Honor Roll is designed to help educators tap into the power of Accelerated Reader, by guiding their implementation in ways that promote and accelerate student growth.

Leaders from the four campuses named: Carmen Anaya Elementary and Graciela Garcia Elementary in Pharr, and John McKeever Elementary and Marcia Garza Elementary in Alamo, earned the prestigious recognition. There goal was to guide effective implementation of the independent reading practice in the different Accelerated programs, a K-12 program that motivates students and personalizes reading practice while enabling educators to monitor comprehension and growth.

For Maria Sinapuelas, librarian at Garcia Elementary, earning the recognition motivates them to continue working hard for their students.

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” said the librarian. “Our students set high standards for their reading and are challenged daily to achieve their goals.”

In addition to librarians and teachers, school principals were also recognized for their efforts in promoting literacy and student growth in reading.

“Receiving the distinction of Honor Roll for the fourth year in a row is such a great accomplishment,” said Joe A. Garza, Principal at Carmen Anaya Elementary. “Our Librarian Laura Quiroz-Torres continues to collaborate, promote and maintain a community of readers.”
