McALLEN - The McAllen Performing Arts Center will host CineConcert’s Harry Potter Film Concert Series on June 6 and 7.
The series, which tours 11 countries and 44 cities, features a live orchestra performing the entire score of a film as it plays simultaneously for an audience. For the McAllen dates, the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) symphony orchestra will perform the soundtrack for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
Omar Rodriguez, the director of the McAllen Convention Center, says the shows should not be missed.
“It’s a huge opportunity for really our friends from Northern Mexico and our region to enjoy this art played to this level,” Rodriguez said. “It’s also an opportunity for Harry Potter fans to put on their robes and their hats and bring out their broomsticks and come enjoy.”
The first of the popular movie franchise, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was scored by acclaimed composer John Williams. The iconic soundtrack, including “Hedwig’s Theme,” the most recognizable piece, accompanied the cinematic introduction to the world’s most famous wizard.
Even if one is unfamiliar with the Harry Potter movies, seeing a renowned orchestra play live should be a draw.
Jose Isidoro Ramos Manzano, coordinator for UANL’s symphony orchestra, says the almost 90-piece international ensemble is ready to perform Williams’ enchanting score for residents on this side of the border. Having already completed the first round in Monterrey, he says the McAllen show dates are the final leg for the “Sorcerer’s Stone” concerts.
“This is the last opportunity to listen to the first film score, because the next one is the second [film]. People who want to enjoy this, this is the last opportunity,” said Ramos Manzano.
The Harry Potter Film Concert Series begins performances of the second film, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” this fall.
“We hope to see the second,” Rodriguez added. “We need the community to come out and support it…This is fantastic art to come out and enjoy and see, especially for the whole family.”
