Just in case you might not recall, Dishin’ It has been on quest dedicated to finding some of the best, as well as hidden, places to brunch. We decided to continue this in-depth investigation this past weekend because we owe it to our readers to let them know where they can enjoy breakfast and lunch, while simultaneously sipping on Mimosas. Plus, it was also Trisha’s birthday, so we said to ourselves, “Research and birthday festivities? Why not?!” It was a have “our cake (birthday cake that is) and eat it too” kind of day.
To help jog your memory, we did briefly visit University Draft House during our St. Patty’s stint, but we had promised to return to fully indulge in the experience. We had the option of visiting for lunch or happy hour but once we found out that they, too, had brunch, the decision was basically made for us.
Best part of it all is that not only do they offer brunch on Sundays, like in most places, but they host Saturdays as well!
Gaby: I especially love brunching on Saturdays because I then have all day Sunday to recover….urrr, I mean to finish errands and plan my week ahead.
Trisha: Riiiight, my dear. That’s what you meant. It has absolutely nothing to do with those two French 75s you drank down.
Gaby: I plead the Fifth.
Brunch is held every weekend from 11:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. We arrived around 1:30p.m., so we skipped out on the initial brunch rush.
Gaby: Oooh, say that five times as fast as you can!
Trisha: Brunch Rush, brunch rush, brunch rush...you know what? NO.
Our timing was perfect. It was right before that second wave. We were quickly attended to and sat down.
SIDE NOTE: Normally, during lunch, you have to walk up to to the cash register and order your meal or, if you sit at the bar and ask your bartender very nicely, he might put in your order.
The open and inviting atmosphere was laid back. There were small parties celebrating graduations, birthdays and families just hanging out. There is nothing intimidating about the place; it is a welcoming space, filled with light and and an inviting patio. Full view glass, garage doors make for an easy transition from restaurant to patio and give the Draft House a modern flair, along with its pipe shelving on the backsplash of the bar. Large projector screens and televisions surround the restaurant portion (some are facing outside) which make it the perfect sports bar, too. Their selection goes back and forth between the CHIVE Network, sporting events, and music videos.
Trisha: It was like they knew we were there to celebrate. One large screen solely showcased music videos from the 80’s and 90’s. It was the main channel on the speakers, as well. Literally, music to my ears.
Gaby: I totally called in advance and told them we were coming to celebrate you! (wink)
Trisha: I knew it! (lol)
Stevie Nicks was serenading us in the background while we were enjoying our French 75s (gin and champagne). Other brunch drink menu options include (besides your trustworthy Mimosa): build-your-own Bloody Mary, Bellini, Strawberry Watermelon Sangria, and Blackberry Apple Sangria.
SIDE NOTE: When deciding to build-your-own Bloody Mary, ask the server about the upgrade options for the vodka.
Gaby: There might have been a rumor that a group of females (totally not us) consumed all of the gin needed to make French 75s.
Trisha: I don’t know what rumor you’re referring to but, in order to avoid any crises, I moved on to a Pepo-Tini, which was then followed by University Draft House’s infamous Moontang.
Gaby: Ah, yes, the Moontang! Picture your favorite childhood drink, Tang, mixed to perfection with some moonshine, all blended in a Margarita machine and rightfully served in a mason jar with a sliced orange (got to get in your fruits) and a straw. Perfect for this sweltering Texas heat.
Trisha: Speaking for a friend here, but two of those (Moontangs) aaaaand you’re out!
Thank goodness, before all the cocktail consumption, we’d happily devoured our brunch menu dishes.
Trisha: Bagels and Lox for me, please, but hold the poached egg and capers. That perfectly toasted bagel with cream cheese and zesty dill, topped with green onions, filled with arugula, a hint of thinly sliced cucumber, smoked salmon, and a side of cherry tomatoes. Pure scrumptiousness.
Gaby: While the birthday girl went for the Bagels and Lox, I stuck with the more traditional Eggs Benedict. Other than possibly going with one of the famously delicious burgers from University Draft House, I don’t think I could have chosen any better. The savory poached egg, served over English muffins with my choice of either smoked salmon or ham, was topped with bearnaise and served over a bed of Texas potatoes and sauteed asparagus.
If you’re not into salmon or eggs, you can always go with the delectable Banana Foster French Toast, Chicken and Waffles, or good ol’ Biscuits and Gravy. Regardless of your choice, you really can’t go wrong. There’s also a slew of extras to choose from like, sliced avocado, chorizo refried beans, fruit cup, biscuit and jelly, etc.

Their hours of operation are Sunday through Wednesday from 11:00a.m.-12:00a.m and Thursday through Saturday 11:00am.-2:00a.m. They offer different Happy Hours like Texas Tuesdays where the majority of their Texas crafted beers are $4 or Cocktail Wednesday.
