Every year during the Leadership McAllen graduation, an award is presented to an individual who exemplifies strong leadership through their hard work, service and volunteering in community events as well as non-profit, advisory and/or other community boards. This award was created in 2001 and has been presented every year in honor of former McAllen Police Chief Alejandro “Alex” Romero Longoria. The Alex Longoria Award was created to not only honor the many years of extraordinary work Chief Longoria exemplified but to also honor individuals who continue to serve the McAllen community.

During the Leadership McAllen May 09, 2017 Class XXXVI graduation, this award was presented to Jason Leal of McAllen. Leal has been the Market President of the Upper Rio Grande Valley at BBVA Compass since 2015. He provides leadership for all commercial banking activities, including business development and market leadership coordination. He began his career in 1989 at the Rio Grande Valley-based Texas State Bank and joined the BBVA Compass team eight years ago.
