EDINBURG – Residents within Hidalgo County now have access to more than 20,000 books, magazines and audio books from 13 libraries at no cost. All one needs to do is download the app and begin reading.
The e-library was funded by the county with an initial investment of $400,000 and an additional $70,000 earmarked for the 2018 budget.
Arnoldo Becho, secretary for the Hidalgo County library system said the opening of the e-library was two years in the making.
“It was encouraging to see the response we were receiving for the project,” Becho said at the library's launch. “The leaders of this community earnestly care about reading.”
Becho said an initiative like an e-library will lead to a happier, healthier and more productive Hidalgo County.
The library is completely online, no one will ever pay a fine.
