The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) RGV Chapter is happy to announce that they are taking applications for the 2018 “Latinas in Progress” (LIP) Program. The Program is designed for young senior Latina high school girls who agree to go thru a 6 month program and be eligible for scholarships at the end of the Program. They will get some College preparation, receive Assertiveness training, writing skills, learn Hispanic history, Leadership training, Politics, Culture and Civism. In addition they will learn some life skills such as health awareness and self improvements.

There is no fee to participate in the LIP Program. “The program is an excellent way to prepare these young ladies for life after graduation” noted Kelly Solis, vice chair of Scholarships for the HWNT – RGV Chapter. “We enjoy providing the LIP Program to our local young ladies, who sometimes are very sheltered and fear leaving home to go away to college”. Solis added. The Program is held on the first Saturday of the month from October thru March with Graduation ceremonies in May., “The RGV Chapter is looking for applicants from Hidalgo and Starr counties.” stated Cynthia M. Sakulenzki, HWNT-RGV Chair. “The class is limited to 40 ladies, so we urge the young ladies to submit their application as soon as possible”. Sakulenzki added.
