The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced that the new Edinburg Driver License Center - located at 5160 N. Interstate 69C, Edinburg, TX 78542 – will open to the public (at 8 a.m.) on Monday, Oct. 23. (Personnel from other DPS divisions will also be housed in the building.)

The new Edinburg Driver License Center, which is more than 22,000 square feet, will have 12 processing workstations with the ability to add an additional 12, upgraded technology and lanes designated for commercial driver license skills testing. The office will also feature convenient technology that allows customers to get in line before they arrive at the office via cell phone, land line or online. DPS encourages customers to take advantage of this convenient technology, by visiting www.dps.texas.gov/administration/driver_licensing_control/rolodex/search.asp. (On Monday, select Edinburg as the city, and click the “Get In Line Online” button – or call the phone number listed to get in line via phone).

Many Texans are eligible to skip the trip to a driver license office altogether and instead take advantage of online services for driver license/ID card renewals, duplicates or address changes by visiting Texas.gov. Customers can also renew by phone at 1-866-357-3639. The eligibility requirements for phone renewal and online renewal are the same. The fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals.

Important reminder: Customers may renew their Driver License/Texas ID card one year early prior to their expiration date, which allows them to choose a convenient time that fits their schedule.
