Nine students from Sharyland school district were recognized for their prose or poetry selections. This year's theme was “I want to build a better world because.”
Winners include B.L. Gray Junior High Students- age 10-13: Zoe Gonzalez - 2nd place poetry “Our Current World”; Jean Charles Moysset - 3rd place poetry “The World Needs Help”; Mia Marianela Alaniz - 1st place prose “Why Would You Choose War”; and Naylah Jobe 3rd - place prose “How Do You Want Your World”. Harry Shimotsu Elementary Student age 6-9: Alberto Pena - 1st place “Better World”. Sharyland Pioneer High School Students age 14-18: Roman Benavidez - 3rd place poetry “The Wind” and D’Andra Garza - 3rd place prose “The Evil Within”. Romulo D. Martinez Elementary Student age 6-9: Katelyn Casanova - 2nd place prose “Building a Better World”. Sharyland High School Student age 14-18: Ana Quintero - 2nd place poetry “In a Better World”. Among those in attendance were Sharyland ISD librarians Nicole Cruz, Janie Flores, and Wenndy Pray. All Sharyland ISD librarians supported and promoted the writing competition as well as the book festival.
