McALLEN – The McAllen Police Department and the McAllen Crime Stoppers hosted their annual turkey giveaway, helping 150 families enjoy a better holiday season.
Throughout the year McAllen Crime Stoppers organization seeks out the help of the community in two ways. First they ask for information to help fight crime and host fundraisers to pay for tips leading to arrests. Those fundraisers have also helped in being able to afford to provide a dinner to those who might not have been able to do so during the holiday.
“The last few years they have returned the favor to the community,” McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said.
The dinners given away at the police station was just part of the day.
They followed up later by issuing what Rodriguez dubbed, “Turkets.” Police officers pulled residents over for a traffic stop but instead of issuing a ticket they issued turkey dinners.
