PHARR – This year, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) has teamed up with the cities of Pharr, San Juan and Alamo for the 2018 It’s Time Texas Community Challenge happening now until March 4. Hosted by It’s Time Texas, a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving health in the state, the Challenge is an 8-week competition that unites and mobilizes schools, businesses, organizations, community members and city leaders toward the common goal of transforming their community’s health.
In addition to motivating the community to live healthier lives, the winning community at the end of a challenge will win an $1,800 grant for health-related projects and school districts will receive a trophy and special recognition.
For the second year in a row, a variety of free fitness classes will be offered at different locations to all members of the tri-city community on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Classes offered will include Zumba and Total Body Fitness. Besides offering free classes, the school district is encouraging teachers and staff to take part in the Challenge by taking the Teacher Pledge, Principals Pledge and participating in daily health activities.
PSJA ISD would like to thank all community sponsors and instructors who have donated their time to provide these free classes. Sponsors include the City of Pharr Parks & Recreation and Team Beauty PSJA.
