South Texas Health System administrators and staff were joined by McAllen city leaders, chamber representatives and local law enforcement on January 18th in breaking ground at it’s newest free-standing emergency department construction site.

Local dignitaries, including McAllen Mayor Jim Darling, expressed his support of the new STHS ER Ware Rd. in front of a large crowd including all STHS CEO’s, members of the STHS board of directors, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, RGV Partnership, as well as, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez and representatives from other law enforcement teams in Hidalgo County and first responders.

The large group took part in a ceremonial shoveling of dirt at the corner of Ware Rd. and Nolana which will soon be home to South Texas Health System’s newest 24-hour emergency department, the 8th ER for the largest health care system in the Rio Grande Valley.

STHS ER Ware Rd. will be staffed with medical personnel and equipped with the same diagnostic technology available in South Texas Health System’s hospital-based emergency rooms.
