EDINBURG – The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) recently announced that it has awarded $800 grants to 17 music teachers from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, totaling $13,600 to purchase materials and equipment for their classrooms.

“This is fantastic news for Edinburg CISD’s award-winning music program,” said ECISD Fine Arts Director Nelinda Villarreal. “Each of the music teachers applied for the grant, which demonstrates their support and commitment to ensuring their students receive a quality music education.”

The 17 Edinburg CISD music teachers awarded the grant are as follows:

Canterbury Elementary School: Isabel Martinez

Cavazos Elementary School: Erica Careaga

Crawford Elementary School: Carlos Mendez

De La Vina Elementary School: Roy Trevino

Eisenhower Elementary School: Abram Vasquez

Escandon Elementary School: Flor Maldonado

Flores/Zapata Elementary School: Josue Careaga

Gonzalez Elementary School: Rosalinda Cantu

Gorena Elementary School: Stephan Garcia

Guerra Elementary School: Alex Requenez

Jefferson Elementary School: Juan Amaro

Monte Cristo Elementary School: Cindy Escaname

Ramirez Elementary School: Julie Garza

Travis Elementary School: Cynthia Graham

Trevino Elementary School: Kindra Garcia

Truman Elementary School: Barbara Gonzalez

Villarreal Elementary School: Amanda Casas

 

The grant was part of the TMEA Elementary Music Instructional Support Program, which awarded more than $760,000 to approximately 1,014 elementary music programs across the state.

According to TMEA, this is the second elementary grant program offered by the TMEA Executive Board, the first being four years ago.
