PHARR – The University Interscholastic League (UIL) recently announced that film teams from three PSJA ISD high schools have been selected as 2017-18 UIL Young Filmmakers Festival Semi-Finalists in several Division II categories.

Teams from PSJA North Early College High School, PSJA Memorial Early College High School and PSJA Southwest Early College High School have advanced after submitting original films to the 2017-18 UIL Young Filmmakers Festival.

The UIL program was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. Since 1910 the UIL has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world with competition categories ranging from academics and athletics to theatre and music.

The following PSJA schools had teams advanced to the Semi-Finals in their respective Division II categories:

Digital Animation Division II Category

"Luna" - PSJA North ECHS

According to Che Greeno, a sophomore at PSJA Southwest ECHS, the students are excited to see their hard work pay off.

"I'm extremely proud of our film team," said Greeno. "Working together on these short stories and watching them come to life and be successful has been a very exciting process."

State finalists in each category will be announced by Feb. 20. They will be competing at the State competition at The Paramount Theatre in Austin, on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
