PHARR – Film teams from PSJA North Early College High School and PSJA Southwest Early College High School recently advanced to the 2017-18 UIL Young Filmmakers Festival in several Division II categories and placed among the top five in the State of Texas on February 20, 2018.

As part of the 2017-18 UIL Young Filmmakers Festival, high school students must submit original films with no copyrighted content. In addition, adult involvement in the film productions is limited to sponsors and onscreen talent.

The PSJA ISD student films that placed are as follows:

Documentary Division II Category

4th place - ""Z" The Man Behind the Magic" by PSJA North ECHS

5th place - "Home – a place with no boundaries" by PSJA North ECHS

Narrative Division II Category

2nd place - "Breach: Memory" by PSJA Southwest ECHS

5th place - "Deaf/Mute" by PSJA Southwest ECHS

According to Ismael Torres, a senior at PSJA North ECHS, the students are excited to see their work recognized.

"We are so excited to have placed," said Torres who helped produce 'Home – a place with no boundaries.' "Having made one of the top five documentaries in the State of Texas makes me feel humbled and proud to be a part of PSJA."
