Take to the skies of the San Carlos Endowment Center Park at the 19th Annual San Carlos Kite Fun Fly Festival, April 7 from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 noon. Soar to new levels of fun by casually flying your kite with friends and family or participate in a free kite flying contest and be eligible for certificates and special awards in a variety of kite flying categories intended for all ages and experience levels. Awards are family friendly and no experience is necessary; award categories range from “Best Crash” to “Highest Flying”. There will also be an expert kite flyer on hand to provide kite flying tips and assist with mending kites that need a little help.

Bring your own kite to the fun. In addition, kites will be given away while supplies last. Attendees can expect to see and do much more than fly kites. Music will be provided by a DJ and Edinburg Dance Centre will provide a hip hop performance. Vendors will also be in attendance with health and summer program information. In addition, a soccer camp hosted by UTRGV and RGV Toros and STEM Fair conducted by Dr. Ludy Avila, professor STC will be provided.

The Kite Festival is free and open to the public. The San Carlos Endowment Center Park is located at 107 North Sunflower (Hwy 107 & Sunflower Road).

The San Carlos Kite Fun Fly Festival is made possible by the County of Hidalgo Precinct #4, Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV, and Juan Reyes of Texas Tarp.

“Mr. Reyes and his kites are what started the Annual San Carlos Kite Fun Festival,” said Sabrina Walker Hernandez, CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs in Edinburg. “He is certainly the go-to guy in San Carlos and Edinburg, when it comes to kites. We are forever grateful for his guidance and participation in this project.”

Since 1969, Boys & Girls Club has played an integral role in the Edinburg community, providing daily programs and services to over 18,000 young people. During the School year the Club is open Monday – Friday, 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and during the summer the hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. On all ECISD holidays and teachers work days the Legacy Center is open 7:30 am – 5:30 p.m. The Club has moved its main site and administration to its new building the Legacy Center located at 702 Cullen Street (Rogers and 281). The Club offers programs that emphasize academic success, healthy lifestyles and character.
