UTRGV has named two Student Employees of the Year and two Supervisors of the Year in recognition of National Student Employment Appreciation Week, which was held April 9-13.
Each year, UTRGV awards one student and one supervisor at each UTRGV campus for outstanding contributions to the university. An awards banquet was held at each campus to name the awardees, and honor all nominated students and supervisors.
The student employee awardees included:
Frida Pineda, Business and Administration Department, Edinburg Campus. Mónica Muñoz, Office of Physics and Astronomy, Brownsville Campus. UTRGV has more than 2,500 student employees across its campuses and teaching sites.
Those nominated for the student award must be employed for at least a year. Selections were based on work performance, reliability and unique contribution to respective departments. Of the more than 50 students nominated, only one winner from each campus went home with an appreciation plaque and $300 award.
In addition, Supervisor of the Year awards were given to UTRGV employees who oversee student workers and act as mentors to them.
Supervisor of the Year winners included:
· David H. Clower Jr., Print Services Department, Edinburg Campus. · Bianca Otero, University Marketing and Communications, Brownsville Campus. National Student Employment Appreciation Week was initiated by the National Student Employee Association to recognize the professional contributions of students at universities nationwide. Awards ceremonies were held April 12-13 to close National Student Employment Appreciation Week, after a week of activities on both campuses that included a job fair, résumé seminar and networking event.
