Pharr will be the hub of activity in the Upper Valley this weekend as the city celebrates its annual Hub Phestival and sees the opening of a new theater production.
The Hub Phest opens Friday and continues Friday, while the Pharr Community Theater opens its production of Bless Me Ultima on Friday evening (see related story).
The 5th Annual Hub Phestival begins with a kickoff ceremony on Friday morning at 9 a.m. at the Texas Theater on Park Ave. in downtown. A trolley tour of the city, visiting 29 locations, will begin at 10 a.m. at the Texas Theater. A luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Letty’s Restaurant.
Saturday, the Hub Phest kicks into full gear with downtown music concerts, a cookoff and parade. The day begins with a Cook Off that gets underway at 7 a.m. at the Pharr Chamber of Commerce, 308 W. Park Ave. The Spring Parade at Cage Blvd. and Bus. 83 begins at 2 p.m. Food booths and carnival rides open at 2 p.m. along Park Ave. and Cook Off awards will be presented at 3 p.m. at the Chamber.
A full slate of musical entertainment will also going on downtown on Saturday. The schedule kicks off with Chris Rivera at 3 p.m.; Briana & Band, 4 p.m.; Cha Cha Jimenz y Los Chachos, 5 p.m.; Rene Sandoval, 6 p.m.; New Variety Band, 7 p.m.; Heritage Musical Award, 7:50 p.m.; David Lee Garza & Ram Herrera, 8 p.m.; and feature entertainer Pat Green at 10 p.m.
